My name is Megan and my boyfriend Seneca and I have a VW bus. Being environmentalists, we got an efficient diesel with the intention of converting it to run on waste vegetable oil (WVO) and bio-diesel, cleaner, renewable, sustainable, carbon-neutral fuel sources. This blog is a chronicle of our adventures converting our bus to a greasecar, or as we like to call it, a “volksvegan,” and our biofuel-powered travels.
The volksvegan is now up and running, with a greasecar kit installed and some veggie-oil-powered miles under her belt. But maintaining the volksvegan is a constant work in progress as we upgrade and replace parts, optimize our system, and travel along in our experiment in sustainable travel.
I started this blog to share photos, tips, ideas, news, stories, and links related to the grease conversion and general restoration of the 1982 Diesel Vanagon. You may learn along with us about bio-fuels, greasecars, green living, and the beautiful places we see in our travels. This blog serves as a travel journal for us to log our miles and show the world how much fun driving a car that smells like french fries can be!
In 2008 we added another biofuel VW to the family, Loretta the Jetta, a 2009 VW Jetta TDI “clean diesel” that won an award for the Green Car of the Year! She’s quite a bit zippier than the bus, that’s for sure, and she can run on bio-diesel!
