Fly Me to the Moon: Review of The Dab Hut’s Lunar Lander Device

I’m excited to share my long-awaited review of the Lunar Lander device from The Dab Hut! I have seen dab tech evolve quite a bit since I first got into it around 2012 and let me tell you, folks, the future is here.

As a graphic designer, I admit, I’m a bit of a sucker for aesthetics. But while Puffcos may be sexy, when my Peak Pro died after 4 or so years of daily use, I was hesitant to drop another $400+ to replace it (they don’t do returns after a year, and they don’t have any sort of recycling program, trust me I asked). So of course I took to LinkedIn to lament when my daily driver no longer held a charge or turned on and soon was nerding out with some fellow dabbers.

Enter Charles, deep in the comments, to mention some of the dab devices he’s been working on at The Dab Hut, including something called a Ball Vape that delivers dab-like flavor from a flower vape. That’s definitely the next thing I gotta try!

Charles answered my endless questions about his devices as I asked him what he’d recommend to replace my dead Peak. After a very pleasant and helpful conversation, Charles was asking for my address so I could try a Lunar Lander, and I was flabbergasted that a fellow weed nerd I met on LinkedIn was so kind and that the founder of a dab device company was so accessible and responsive to a potential customer’s questions.

A few days later, I was unboxing an amazing package from The Dab Hut, including multiple glass toppers for the Lunar Lander, a handy travel case with all the accessories as well as spare parts for it, terp pearls, dab tools and a handy instruction guide to help me fire up those jets quickly.Ā (Did I mention there were tasty snacks in the package as well?! I think The Dab Hut knows their audience).

Similar in function to many erigs, the Lunar Lander has a push button that glows a different color depending on the heat setting you choose, and it has six! I like green or white mode but you can go from super low temp to massive clouds with a single tap of the button. With a double tap, the Lunar Lander starts warming up and it’s time to drop the concentrate in.

The inside of the bowl is seated deeply and a tad trickier to hit than some devices, so a heated dab tool works great for dropping in a dab, and then I capped it and soon the device vibrated and the lights blinked to indicate it was time to fly.

This thing makes a LOT of bubbles, and I am a bong girlie for life so I am always looking for a nice cooling percolator. It starts off lighter and then builds into a massive cloud of vapor, making for multiple big hits from each dab. I’m able to really taste the flavor of my favorite Whitethorn Rose in this rig and it’s certainly much easier to deal with than a torch and banger and safer than a bucket of ISO. I feel like an astronaut blasting off with a high tech spaceship to the moon by the time I wipe the bowl clean with a Q-tip and use an alcohol pad on the inside of the attached cap.

A quick swirl & wipe keeps it clean for quite a while, but when it is time to clean the Lunar Lander, head to The Dab Hut’s YouTube for a full run-down on the process. You can take everything apart and soak almost all of it in ISO, then rinse the glass with hot water, leave it all out to dry and re-assemble. Extra parts for the heater including each screw are included for when it’s ready to replace, no more overpriced replacement heating elements!

I like how easy it is to travel with the Lunar Lander – simply dump out the water and tuck it into the included case with room for all the accessories you’ll need (I like the pointed Q-tips and small alcohol pads for easy clean-up). And if I ever have questions, I know Chuck is super responsive on social media or on the website.

This device is a bit heavier than my last, but it feels less fragile as well. The only thing I would improve is the ceramic chamber feels a little thin and could be better reinforced, and taking everything apart to clean it is a bit tedious with the tiny screws and all. But I also felt like I could actually get everything really clean, and not have some mystery goo stuck inside that I couldn’t ever get to (yes, I am a clean freak, can you tell?), so maybe that’s a feature, not a bug?

I can go several days of frequent use at least before charging, but it’s easy to charge with a USB-C plug just below the chamber. I’ve been able to use it again after a quick charge but I like to leave it until the light turns green so I know the battery is full. Definitely lasts much longer than any other erig device I’ve had!

TLDR: The Lunar Lander is an excellent and easy to use device for all kinds of dabbers, with a range of heat settings, two different glass tops, and excellent instructions and customer service. The device quickly blasts you to the moon, with long-lasting and flavorful hits that go down smooth and keep you lifted.Ā
