In late 2025 my friend from the Mendo coast, Kelsie, reached out because she needed some help with defining the brand of her pet care business, Scrappy Scoops. I had created her previous brand years before, Sacred Shape, back when we were getting into hula hooping together in Mendo. It’s definitely been a while since I’d done a logo design project, so my branding and illustration skills needed sharpening, but I was eager to help out my friend. She had recently bought the business and wanted to really make the branding reflect her vision for the company and feel more “hers.”
After a few meetings to get aligned on the strategy, I began by creating a sketch in Adobe Illustrator of her dog’s face and modifying it in many iterations and layouts along with different typeface and color options. We went through several rounds of design revisions and refinements until the vibe felt right and the logo, color scheme and font choices all reflected the scrappy and positive attitude and dedicated service that Kelsie and her team provide.

Once we had chosen a direction for the final logo, we discussed all the possible applications and versions that Scrappy Scoops would need, such as one and two color versions for screen printing on company uniforms, a round version for social media and a few different layout options. I built out each version of her logo package and then created a simple Style Guide to summarize the brand colors, fonts, what logo versions to use where and serve as a guideline for the brand styles so that Kelsie could easily maintain her brand guidelines as she implemented the new logo across her website, social media and physical brand assets.
If you need pet cleanup support in the beautiful Arcata / Eureka area in Humboldt County, give Kelsie a call and the Scrappy Scoops team can take care of you! I am so excited that Kelsie loved the outcome of our work together and I’ve set her up for success as she rolls out her fresh and colorful new branding and makes Scrappy Scoops her own.
